Below is a very simple example of how to create a batch and then apply characteristics to it. I have been trying to do this for a while and finally got it to work. As a few others have asked the same question I thought I would post an example. You will obviously have to change the characteristic names to the ones in your system but you should get the idea of how it all works.
Hope someone finds it usefull.
