FORM get_skill USING p_equnr
                     CHANGING p_skill_simp.

DATA: l_matnr TYPE matnr,
          l_objek TYPE objnum,
          L_ATINN TYPE ATINN.

CLEAR p_skill_simp.
* get material for this equipment
SELECT SINGLE matnr FROM equi INTO l_matnr
WHERE equnr = p_equnr.

CHECK sy-subrc = 0.

l_objek = l_matnr.

* convert classification name to internal number

CALL FUNCTION 'CONVERSION_EXIT_ATINN_INPUT'
          EXPORTING
            input = 'MATERIAL_MAINTAIN_GROUP'
          IMPORTING
            OUTPUT = L_ATINN
.

* read characteristic value
SELECT SINGLE atwrt FROM ausp
INTO p_skill_simp
WHERE objek = l_objek
    AND atinn = L_ATINN
    AND atzhl = '001'
    AND mafid = 'O'
    AND klart = '001'.
