Добрый день!
Пожалуйста, разъясните определение про селективность индекса?
Например, если построить два индекса по полям belnr и gjahr для таблицы bkpf, естественно номеров документов будет значительно больше, чем финансовых лет. По какому индексу select будет более селективным?

Селективность поля тем выше, чем больше разных значений от содержит. В вашем примере селективность поля belnr выше, чем селективность gjahr.
Когда нужно создавать индексы

При создании составного индекса чаще используемые или наиболее селективные столбцы должны идти первыми.
В вашем случае рекомендуется составной индекс belnr gjahr.
