The data types that can be interpreted as numbers are:

  Integer

• P
  Packed

• F
  Floating point

• X
  Hexadecimal

• XSTRING
  Variable-length hexadecimal strings

• Character-Type Data Objects, whose content can be converted to a number at runtime.
  

Numeric literals are always numeric. Character literals and text elements are numeric, if their content can be converted to a number.
